This piece was born from a place of chaos… hope from chaos… choosing to see the order in the chaos. I was in a place in my life where there were quite a lot of unknowns… potentially good or bad… lots of decisions to make.. The proverbial "fork in the road". Choose one path or choose another. No going back!

I couldn't sleep well. I had probably slept 3-4 hours per night going on 7 days.. and that morning I had woken up at 3am again and couldn't shut my eyes.

In a not so rare moment of synaesthesia, my feelings formed into colours I could see very clearly in my mind... clear but also without form.. roiling, in turmoil... deep in my chest.

I sat on my couch with this feeling for two hours, and eventually I knew there was only one solution...

Grab a canvas or panel, paintbrushes... pour it all out there!

I used a painterly technique for this piece, allowing the different hues of acrylic to morph and shape while intermixing with each other but not too much. It is rough. It is visceral. But also somewhat ordered. Cyclonic. Like a Vortex. Somewhat mathematically predictable. Order in Chaos!

It was only when I finished this painting that I realised what I had done which was unintentional.

I had more or less painted the void, the black hole that is the unknown or set of unknowns that were troubling me in my very near future.
All conglomerating at the centre of the piece in the middle of the swirl... the void.

I was calm. I was happy again. I understood my feelings then. And I was okay with them.
I had found a way to channel my synesthetic episode and emotions into beauty I dare say, one of my masterpieces!

I am really happy with the end result.

I'm going INTO THE VOID... stepping INTO THE UNKNOWN... and that's okay!
